Some hair consumers are leaving their beloved clip-in extension “training wheels” behind and are transitioning into the world of semi-permanent extensions.

Knowing the right brush to use for different styles of hair will save you from hair breakage and split-ends. The basic rule is to use a wide-toothed brush when combing wet hair and using it to de-tangle hair from end to root. For women with short hair, styling can be best achieved with a Paddington brush with soft protective bristles. A Paddle brush with soft protective bristles will work for medium length straight hair while an extra large round brush can be used to shape soft curls from medium length wavy bobs. For women with hair past the shoulders, a big round ceramic brush or a loose toothed brush can aid in combing the hair straight.

Some women cannot live without hair spray. However, as with all hair products, too much use of hair spray can have long-term damaging effects on our hair. So why not try making your own hair spray instead? All you need is to chop one lemon (or orange for dry hair) and place it in a pot with 2 cups of water. Boil until the lemon mixture has been reduced into half its original amount. Let it cool for awhile and then strain out the lemon pieces. Transfer mixture into a clean spray bottle and store in the refrigerator. The hair spray can last up to 1 week in the fridge while adding one ounce of rubbing alcohol as a preservative can make it last up to two weeks unrefrigerated.

Environmentally Friendly Hair Bleach?

Filed under: Information on Saturday, July 18th, 2009 by Ella | Comments Off

Hair bleach of all things is highly polluting for the most effective har bleaching agent we have and use is based on hydrogen peroxide. The Problem with this chemical is that it can also be quite caustic, cooking hair and anything it comes in contact with when it is exposed to oxygen. Used in higher concentrations as an anesthetic, it kills bacteria releasing oxygen as it decomposes and in the process turning everyhting with color white. This high reactivity of the chemical bleach makes it very nasty when it comes into contact with anything biological which is also responsible for the irritating and damaging effects the chemical has on the body and with some people being over sensitive to hydrogen peroxide, it cannot be used by all. There is however a new and better product that is being developed by the Japanese is not only green, it’s all natural. It is a derivative from a form of white fungus that has the same chemical ability to strip the melanin from the hair yet without the side-effects of caustic hydrogen peroxide.

Hair And Scalp Care

Your hair and scalp need as much protection from the sun as the rest of your body due to one distinct fact, more of the sun’s UV rays is getting through the atmosphere due to the hole in the ozone layer and global warming. Fortunately, there are a lot of products that have respectable protection factor or SPF, to prevent hair and scalp damage allowing you to enjoy time under the sun without much worry. Knowing you have these products on however shouldn’t give you too much confidence of staying under the sun too long for they have specific effectivity in terms of hours and may need re-application every few hours. There is also a growing consensus all over the world that UV, both natural and man-made is quite harmful to your skin in excessive amounts. Skin cancer happens when your skin cells mutate through genetic modification of the DNA due to extensive damage by the sun. Your hair though it is quite lifeless once it leaves the follicle can also dry out excessively from the sun so stay covered when it’s hot and even when it’s not for the UV rays of the sun can bounce up from the ground.
